The animated movie has been doing big numbers in Japan, will be coming to America.
As of August 16 2015, The Boy and the Beast has sold 3.6 million tickets earning 4.6 billion yen (around 36-37 million US dollars) which has broken the record of Wolf Children which has earned 4.2 billion yen (around 32-33 million US dollars). The movie ranked #4 in the past weekends top 10 box offices and #7 for the week. Funimation saw the impact this movie made in the Japan and decided they would license the movie to come out in Northern American theaters which is dated for a 2016 release.
The man who is behind this movie Mamoru Hosoda has also directed movies such as: The Girl Who Lept Through Time, Wolf Children, and Summer Wars which are all very widely known movies and very popular, in and out of North America.
The story is set in the human realm (Tokyo’s Shibuya ward) and the bakemono realm (“Shibutenmachi”). In these two worlds which must not intersect, there lives a lonely boy and a lonely bakemono. One day, the boy gets lost in the bakemono world and becomes the disciple of a bakemono named Kumatetsu..
